Heart of the Dunes 2009

Around Elkton

Published: Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 Around Elkton This tiny timber town was incorporated in 1948.

Today, it’s more than a town tied to Oregon’s logging industry.

Home to Oregon’s Butterfly Pavilion, Elkton also boasts several wineries. On the banks of the Umpqua River, the community is popular with fishermen hoping to hook small-mouthed bass and salmon.

There are about 200 residents in Elkton, but in the summer the population swells with visitors who enjoy nearby camping and recreation.
