Scottsburg, Elkton, Loon Lake

Published: Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 Scottsburg, Elkton, Loon Lake Scottsburg, Elkton and Loon Lake, areas surrounded by water, whether in the form of rivers or lakes, get a respite from the cool summer breezes that hit the ocean shoreline in the summertime.

Temperatures are usually a few degrees higher — sometimes several degrees higher — and the sun usually shines most of the day. The weather makes these areas perfect getaways for fishing, hiking or just taking it easy.

One of Scottsburg’s claims to fame is its founder’s day celebration in February. Loon Lake has a lodge and several camping areas with boating facilities available.

Elkton is in the process of rebuilding a replica of Fort Umpqua.

Loon Lake is a short eight miles off of state Highway 38 heading east out of Reedsport; the highway goes right through Scottsburg and Elkton.
