Published: Thursday, June 4th, 2009 Birders who choose to spend time scoping out the area in and around Winchester Bay, Reedsport and Gardiner will be richly rewarded. The forests, waterways and riparian areas, sandy beaches and open ocean offer diverse habitats that host more than 240 bird species. Exceptional birding viewpoints can be found in the middle of town or a short walk in any direction.

For info: The Visitor Center has checklists in the lobby, including the ÅgField Checklist of the Birds of Douglas County and the Bird Checklist for the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The visitor center and the Umpqua Discovery Center both sell field guides.
