
Go to a country fairPublished: Monday, May 5th, 2008 Smith River Grange holds an annual Smith River Country Fair in August. The gathering is an old-fashioned fair with country fun for the whole family.Admission is free. Check with the chamber of commerce to get event scheduling information. The day begins with an opening flag ceremony at and entertainment follows throughout the day. The main event is the pit barbecue dinner. Most years the menu includes barbecued beef, baked potatoes, rolls, coleslaw, watermelon and beverages. Events include old-fashioned games and races for children and adults, including a threelegged race, egg toss, water-balloon toss and sack race. And, don’t leave early because youngsters won’t want to miss the chicken scramble or the greased pig scramble. To get there: Smith River Grange is located at milepost 9, Smith River Road, in Reedsport. Parking is limited; a shuttle may be available from Reedsport. |
